How do I apply Optigard Ant gel bait? Optigard® Ant gel bait is labeled for indoor crack-and-crevice applications, as well as outdoor applications near structures with observed or suspected ant activity. It can be applied with the syringe, in a gel bait gun or with the supplied plunger after removing the protective tip. Where should I place Optigard Ant gel bait? Place the bait as close to active ant foraging trails as possible. Reduce or remove competing food sources, such as pet food, in areas where the bait is being placed. How much Optigard Ant gel bait should I apply? Apply appropriate quantities of bait to control the infestation. The amount of bait needed will vary by ant species. Small-colony species of 1,000 workers or less can typically be managed with a single, dime-sized bead or a 2-inch narrow strip of bait. Species with many more workers may require multiple placements along heavy trails. As a rule of thumb, if ants consume all the bait but activity continues, additional bait and/or other formulations should be considered. Baits may also be applied in a commercially available, refillable bait station. What is the difference between Optigard Ant gel bait and Advion Ant gel bait? Both baits have highly attractive bait matrices that help them maintain their integrity, leading to long-lasting palatability. However, the bait matrices differ from each other, providing distinct nutrients and attractants that taste different to ants. If ants aren’t immediately responding to one type of bait, it may reflect their taste preference at that moment. Can Optigard Ant gel bait be combined with a sprayable insecticide? Yes, the foundation of many effective treatment programs is a combination of liquid sprays and gel baits, which complement each other. It’s best first to apply any sprayble insecticides, and then apply any bait application afterwards. It’s important not to contaminate Optigard Ant gel bait with sprayable insecticides, dirt, nicotine, gasoline or other contaminants, which can lead to reduced bait consumption and performance. What is the shelf life of Optigard Ant gel bait? The shelf life of any product is largely dependent on storage conditions. Ideal storage conditions are indoors with minimal temperature and humidity fluctuations. In these conditions, Optigard Ant gel bait can last up to 5 years or longer. Always refer to the product label for full use recommendations.
