DescriptionIn Wikipedia this king is described as King of Dambadeniya, which controlled hart of east-central Ceylon in the 13th century. It was a shrunken remnant of the Polunarruwa Kingdom, which had controlled most of the island. He tried to build his position, with some results, though he did not succeed in uniting the island. He abdicated in favor of his son in 1269 and died a year later.The Polonnarus were leaders of the opposition to the Cholas who were invading from the mainland. Eventually they succeeded in driving out the Cholas. They were powerful and organized for a while, then they started fighting succession wars. An invasion by Tamilis from the mainland ended their chapter.The earliest ancient Indian coins were the “bent bar” punchmarked silvers of the Achaemenid Persians occupying Gandhara in northwest Pakistan. By the 3rd century BC coins were in general use in most of India and Ceylon, and in subsequent centuries struck round coins in gold, silver, and copper came into use throughout the subcontinent and beyond to Southeast Asia and Pacific islands to Java and beyond.
