He went on to expand the realm and promote the arts, becoming the patron of the great poet Hafiz Shirazi.The Muzaffarids were governors for the Ilkhan Mongols who became independent when the Mongol government collapsed.The Mongol conquest of almost all of Asia in the 13th century created the largest empire the world had ever seen. But their succession system was as primitve as it could be, and the empire fragmented in about a century. Local dynasties sprung up amongst the Mongol inheritance kingdoms.
