ITALY bronze medal for a descendant of Michelangelo 1731

$68.63 $97.45
DescriptionPictures were taken in different light conditions. The obverse legend is translated by Google as “Whom no age has equalled.” Filippo Buonarroti was a grand-nephew of Michelangelo. He was employed in the court of the Grand Duke of Tuscany. He was a scholar and wrote several book of antiquities, including old coins and medals. The word “exonumia” is used to describe all kinds of things that are “like” coins but are not coins. I wrote a blog post on that subject. Basic categories: 1. used like a coin but not issued by a national government, 2. looks like a coin but not made for spending, 3. other things that we are interested in.
