1st Aviation Regiment hat badge – 1st Pattern. Note the difference between the 1st and second pattern is the 1st pattern shows both hind legs on the ‘ground’ (heraldically a ‘guardant‘ stance). In contrast, the successfully approved 2nd pattern has one rear leg raised in what heraldic specialists would refer to as a ‘rampant’ stance.
