PAKISTAN, medieval iron arrowhead, elongated tetrahedral

$36 $59.04
DescriptionThe tetrahedral shape for arrowheads started with the Hephthalites, who maybe got it from the Chinese, who were using them starting around 200 BC. The shape was adopted by the Turks, and was standardized by the Mongols. The elongated variety is rare. They have lower aerodynamic efficiency. Their exact purpose is uncertain. These are probably 12th-13th century “Turko-Mongol.”In the context of western Pakistan, iron arrowheads seem to appear starting around 200 BC.The Iron Age began throughout Eurasia around 700 BC. By, say, 1 AD, the iron had more or less completely displaced bronze in the manufacture of weapons.
